What? I have been teaching private music lessons for 20 YEARS! How is that possible?

I have the best job in the world to enrich peoples’ lives through music. I have taught hundreds (more likely thousands including group classes) of students throughout the years. Part of my favorite thing about teaching is to watch someone’s musical growth through music. To be part of the “ah-ha!” moments of discovery - having students find their own voice and creativity through music.

This fall, my student Yvette gave her senior recital in her home, and I was delighted to receive an invitation. She played the 13-piece set of pieces by Schumann called “Scenes of Childhood.” She shared her music for her close family and friends, and I couldn’t have been more proud. The expression and hard work she spent to prepare the program really showed. I would say I wasn’t the only one listening to her play with a tear or two in my eye. I have known Yvette since she was two years old!

Each week we have hundreds of students take lessons with the fantastic teaching team at Brighter Minds Music. Each student has a story of how they are growing through music. Listening to their music in the halls, teachers greeting families in the lobby, and students beaming after sharing their music at a recital or receiving their All-Star award fills my heart with joy.

I am so delighted to create opportunities to build a musical community. This fall we also had our Party in the Park, where we had picnic fare, lots of music games and piñatas! After a couple year’s break due to the pandemic, we were able to resume our in-person Costume Concerts this October. Over 80 students shared their music for seniors in our community. We went to two senior living facilities and students dressed in costume and shared their music. The residents were very grateful, and it allowed students to share music and brighten their day.

Thank you for being part of Brighter Minds Music. I look forward to the next many years making music in our community.

See you soon!
